Street Race Ends with Two Civilians Dead After Slamming into CA Fire Truck
Two civilians -- possibly involved in a street race -- were killed when their vehicle crashed into a fire truck Tuesday morning in West Compton.
Four Los Angeles County firefighters sustained minor injuries, KTLA reported.
The victims were a man and a woman, possibly in their 30s.
The engine was responding to a medical emergency about 12:30 a.m. when the crash occurred, LACFD PIO Craig Little told reporters.
The rig was hit by the car as it was traveling down Avalon Boulevard.
Witnesses said the vehicle that hit the truck was racing another vehicle at speeds around 80 mph when the crash occurred.
A CHP official confirmed that street racing did appear to be a factor in the crash but the incident was still under investigation.
Authorities are also searching for the second vehicle, described as a blue Honda Civic, that was involved in the incident.
